As a new mom, Katherine Heigl is doing her best to set a good example for adopted daughter Naleigh and kick her smoking habit. But after trying to quit for years, the Life As We Know It star has finally found a method that's working -- no matter how silly it may seem.
"Now I use an electronic cigarette," Heigl says in Parade magazine. "I know it's ridiculous, but it's helping me not to actually smoke real cigarettes. You feel like you are smoking, and you get to exhale but it's just water vapor and not nicotine. I've been doing it for six months."
Never one to mince words, the actress is pretty clear on how she feels about her nicotine vice. "Smoking sucks!" she says. Heigl hopes being frank with her daughter about the habit will be enough to keep her from following in her mom's puffing footsteps.
"The one thing I would say to my kid is, 'It's not just that it's bad for you. Do you want to spend the rest of your life fighting a stupid addiction to a stupid thing that doesn't even really give you a good buzz?'"
