The Power of Reward: Obedience Training

Reward is a powerful tool when used properly in obedience training.

Positive reinforcement is used in police K-9 training to increase the likelihood of desirable behaviors. For example, we reward obedience by giving the dog a toy such as a ball, or by sending him on a building search that includes a bite or on a narcotics search that yields a toy reward when he locates the source of the odor.
